Chinese Varsity Student Axed to Death in Library


Beijing, Dec 20 (IANS): A student in China's Anhui province was hacked to death with an axe in a university library Thursday, authorities said.

The victim, surnamed Tan, 23, a senior student majoring in biomedical engineering at Anhui Medical University based in the provincial capital of Hefei, was killed in the morning, Xinhua reported.

He was axed to death in a room on the sixth floor of the library, a security official said.

Tan was attacked in the neck, said a witness.

The attacker was a senior student of Tan's age, majoring in clinical medicine in the same university and detained by police.
