Swedish Princess to Marry American

Berlin, Dec 24 (IANS/EFE): Sweden's Princess Madeleine will marry US financier Chris O'Neill June 8, 2013, the Swedish Royal Household said Sunday.

The announcement of the upcoming wedding, which will be held in the Royal Chapel in Stockholm, coincided with the 69th birthday of Queen Silvia Sunday.

The 30-year-old Madeleine and O'Neill have lived together in New York for two years and formally announced that they were intending to marry last October.

The youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia is fourth in line for the Swedish throne, and O'Neill comes from a wealthy US family.

Madeleine in 2009 became engaged to Swedish attorney Jonas Bergstrom, who had been her boyfriend since 2002.

However, after repeated stories in the Swedish press about the young man's infidelities, the pair split up, after which the princess moved to New York, where she is involved with several charitable organizations.
