Christmas Celebrated with Fervour in Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 25 (IANS): Christians in Meghalaya Tuesday celebrated Christmas with great fervour, exchanging greetings and gifts with friends and relatives.

Bishops and pastors led services and delivered sermons in cathedrals and churches of different Christian denominations.

Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, Reverend Dominic Jala, presided the midnight Christmas mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church here. In his sermon, he urged people to uphold the ideals of universal love and brotherhood.

All churches, missionary schools and institutions were decorated with colourful lights. More than 80 percent of the people in Meghalaya are Christians.

Governor R.S. Mooshahary said the spirit of Christmas brings peace, happiness and joy.
