PM's 'Theek Hai' Remark Draws More Flak

New Delhi, Dec 26 (PTI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's interrogative 'theek hai' remark which inadvertently went on air along with his address to the nation on the Delhi gang- rape incident drew more flak on Tuesday on social media.

On Tuesday, 'Theek hai' (which means alright in Hindi) continued to be one of the top trending posts on Twitter along with 'Subhash Tomar', the constable who died two days after the violent protests and clashes, and 'Merry Christmas'.

"Silence is truly golden if the spoken word is rusted and needs drastic polishing!!!," film maker Karan Johar said in a tweet followed by the 'thik hai' hashtag.

While Johar's comment did not specifically refer to the Prime Minister's nationally televised speech yesterday in which the remark went on air due to editing error, the 'thik hai' hash tag pointed to the purport of the sentence.

Socialite Suhel Seth included the now famous phrase in his Christmas and New Year wishes in a sarcastic fashion. "Here's wishing all of you a Theek Hai Merry Christmas and an even more Theek Hai 2013!," Seth tweeted.

A section of the Twitterati was apparently not assuaged by the Prime Minister's speech in which he made an appeal for calm. "Mr Prime Minister, You should know what is Theek Hai and what is not. This is not how you treat women," a comment went.

Others adopted a philosophical approach to the situation. "But good to see we have progressed from chaltahai to theek hai. It suits our overall fatalistic approach to life and society," a tweet said.

Another tweet was a comment on the current situation in the Capital. "Central Delhi Metros still shut; autos won't go the whole way; Theek Hai Chal ke jayenge :)," the user tweeted.

On the social networking site Facebook, the innocuous comment--theek hai--featured even in Christmas wishes. "Here's hoping the next Christmas is merrier than this one. 'thik hai'," commented one of the users.

Earlier, film actor Anupam Kher tweeted--PM?s ?Theek Hai? at d end of his Address (to the person behind camera) was d most Candid & Natural expression I have EVER seen from him.

Other tweets on Twitter reflected more sarcasm and anger. "Our Prime Minister needs a new speech writer...," an angry tweet said.

One should not politicise such a serious burning issue where the foot soldiers of BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and few anti-social elements took law into their hand and destroyed public properties, attacked cops, tried to gate crash Rashtrapati Bhavan and that was wrong.

Dinesh Poojary Ji,...i guess BJP or supportors of BJP should little bit raise the standards with the level of allegations, especially againt Rahul Gandhi. Allegation of nevie or flop master, or PM candidate just because of the surname is all ok, but this fabricated "RAPE CASE" against him does not give real"SHOBA" to the accusers. We all know that he might not stoop to that very level. He might have had some concensual relationship & now somebody is trying to make use of it or blackmailing and some politicians are making use of it but I dont think its good to getting down to the level of Kalladka Bhat while accusing Rahul Gandhi or Congress. For rest of the congress bashing even I am there with you, JAI HO....TEEK HAI??????

Regarding MMS statement to the nation, the suffix itself proved the Govts double face. He just made the speech out of compulsion after he got a call from 10 Janpath at the middle of the night when the Govt could not control Delhi protests. So I guess he asked the S-Madam who was sitting in front of him while telecasting it TAAK HAI... ? Did i say right ?. Congress is only scared that the BJP may hijack the protests and run their coin, they are not really bothered about peoples or victims plight in Delhi protests.

    Baaki Sab Teek Hai.

    Mr Under Achiever referred to:

    1. Gang rape is alright, since Rahul also did same.
    2. Corruption is alright.
    3. Scams are alright
    4. Sonia Gandhi is indirectly ruling. That is alright.
    5. His silence is alright.

Like Rahul gandhi, he also needs a speech writer. His head is a HOLLOW SPHERE.
