Ukranian Policeman Held for Stealing Cannabis

Moscow, Dec 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti): A Ukranian policeman has been charged with stealing 15 kg of cannabis confiscated from a drug dealer.

It so happened that the police in Ukraine's Kirovograd region had seized 24 kg of pot from the dealer. But when the drugs were weighed in the courtroom at the judge's order, it weighed a mere nine killos, a media report said.

The police initially said it could have occurred due to shrinkage after marijuana dried. But forensic experts debunked the cited reason.

A subsequent check discovered that a police officer in charge of storing material evidence had caved in to temptation and stole most of the cannabis.

The officer, whose name was withheld, was fired from the force and faces up to 10 years behind bars.
