Retired Judge to Probe Delhi Gang-rape

New Delhi, Dec 26 (IANS): The government Wednesday announced a judicial commission to probe the gang-rape of a woman in a bus here and any police lapses and to suggest ways to make Delhi safer for women.

The probe panel will be led by retired Delhi High Court judge Usha Mehra, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said after a cabinet meeting.

The report is to be submitted in three months, he said.

"The steps are being taken with the serious intent to find a lasting solution to the problem (of rape) that plagues all metros and other towns of India," he said. "That it is happening in Delhi is a matter of shame."

The announcement comes 10 days after a bunch of men raped and tortued a 23-year-old woman in a bus and dumped her after some 40 minutes along with her male friend who too was badly beaten up.

This devastating and disturbing incident has worked as a fuel to the already burning fire among the people of India.
According to me some steps to make the whole country safe and free for women and girls of the country are as follows.

1.First and foremost, government should and must hang these 6 rapists and give justice and respect to the innocent victim, and by this should set an example of what sever crime rape is.
    2. Other pending rape cases should be solved in least time in fastrack courts, and the criminals should be given stricter punishments.
    3. Police should carry out patrolling at night
    4. Delhi police should cooperate with the non-violent people who are just protesting instead of using water canons, lathi charge etc.
    5. Government should pass a law pertaining to solving rape cases in least time and should give stricter punishments to the rapists.
