Pakistani Jailed for Electricity Theft


Islamabad, Dec 27 (IANS): A private steel mill owner has been sentenced to one year jail for electricity theft, said a media report.

Geo News reported from Lahore that the case was unprecedented in the history of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Rizwan, owner of Haq Steel Mills, was charged with electricity theft of Rs.2.2 million and sent to jail after being found guilty, WAPDA's senior magistrate Noor Muhammad Awan was quoted as saying.

Awan said Rizwan has become the first man to be jailed over electricity theft in department's history.
