Delhi's Rs 15 Lakh, Job for Rape Victim's Family

New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS): The Delhi government Monday announced a compensation of Rs.15 lakh and a job to one of the family members of the Dec 16 gang-rape victim.

"Keeping in view the extremely exceptional circumstances and barbaric nature of the crime, the cabinet decided to sanction an amount of Rs.15 lakh to the surviving members of the victim," said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in a statement.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting, where it was also decided to offer a job to one of the rape victim's family members, said an official.

The woman was brutally raped Dec 16 and died Saturday in Singapore. She was cremated here Sunday morning.

Govt. must be more serious about Law & Order. In Delhi Law is burried under water. It is totally a lawless state. Law enforcement & Police Dept is a Joke. Law enforement heads/chiefs need to learn a lot from other countries and teach Police Dept.,
Until then, they don't learn, nor the public safety. Shame on Police Dept, Home Dept and Chief Minister.

These politicians shut public protest by compensation. I appreciate the delhi protestors who kept a distance from politicians. It is high time to think how to stop this crime completely. Kindly request all men to join hand in the movement, create awareness in the family, neighbourhood, workplace and public places, please raise voice whenever there is minute harassment. Let us all provide the right to live with dignity to all our daughters, sisters and mothers.

Madam Sheilaji, before seeing your amount, the nation wants to know the course of action the Govt. is going to take against those and such other criminals. The people also want to know about the hundreds of similar cases where victims'complaints were not heard or FIRs not filed or culprits were not punished as a result of political pressure or money power. We want to know whether you have undergone any genuine change after this horrible tragedy or just trying to console the victim's family through your money power.
