"The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a five-year-old girl was raped by two men in Bidar and who were yet to be arrested," said an NHRC official.

Notice has been issued to the superintendent of police, Bidar, calling for a report on the mid-December matter within four weeks.

The girl was referred to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad from a government hospital in Bidar for surgery, according to the media report.

The commission observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of human rights of the girl.
