Mangalore: 250 Traders Operating in APMC, 3.16 Cr Achieved So Far

Mangalore, Jan 1: “As per the high court’s verdict and the order passed by the director of Agriculture Product Marketing Corporation, 136 sites allotted to traders were seized as they violated the norms while constructing complexes in the allotted sites, and Rs 69 lac has been forfeited by the Mangalore APMC”, said its president K Krishnaraj Hegde here at a press conference held on Monday December 31.
“About 250 traders have shifted to Baikampady premises and have been carrying out their trading activities. Out of 250 traders, 122 have built their own buildings”, he added. Earlier, they were told to shift their trading to Baikampady or face the legal consequences.
About setting up of a paddy procurement centre, Hegde said that the Karnataka State Food and Civil Supply Department, being the nodal agency had given permission to set up a paddy procurement centre in Moodubidri. “The farmers will get support price for their crop”, he added.
APMC Mangalore was given the target of achieving Rs 5.90 Cr as market fees in the form of rent among others. Rs 3.16 Cr has been achieved so far prior to the financial year ending as on March 31, 2013.
“Heeding the request of KCCI, criminal cases filed on 117 traders for violating the APMC Act (Section 8) has been withdrawn. The court has consented to go ahead with the decision”, he said.
Hegde also said that the Nellikai road will be developed under the PPP project and the tender has been floated. “In all, APMC has chalked out plans to develop 30 roads and the work will be completed by March 2013”, he said.
