Beltangady: Serial Accident Causes Death of Bike Rider

Beltangady, Jan 3: A  man was killed in a bike accident near TB Cross in Ujire on Wednesday January 2.

The deceased who was a newly wed, has been identified as Purushottam Shetty (41).

As per the information received, a lorry plying from Belthangady to Ujire hit a Maruthi Omni at the rear end, near TB Cross Nekaarapere cross road.

At the same time, a bike ridden by Purushottam Shetty rammed into the car. The impact of the accident was such that the bike rider fell under the lorry.

He was soon rushed to Ujire hospital for primary aid and he was later taken to a hospital in Mangalore. As he was gravely injured on his head and stomach, Shetty died on the way to hospital.

Sources said that, the deceased owns a liquor shop near Kashibettu and got married 10 months back.

Eyewitnesses say that the rider along with the bike was dragged for about 15-20 metres by the lorry.

The lorry driver’s negligence and speeding was the main reason behind the accident.

Locals claim that accidents are on rise in this particular road as it is narrow.
