Mangalore, Jan 9: The National Safety Council, Karnataka Chapter Action Centre, Mangalore, observed a state level specialized safety training on safety management and accident prevention in the city January 8.
Inaugurating the programme, TSN Murthy (IRS), deputy chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust said, “People should be personally cautious about accident prevention. If an individual dies in the accident it is a huge loss to his family, nation and society. People should not use their cell phones while driving because most of the times their will be attention diverted and hence the accidents occur.”
K G Nanjappa, deputy director of factories, Mangalore was the guest of honour. He said, “80 percent of accidents take place due to human negligence, 18 percent of accidents due to failure of machineries and only 2 percent of accidents are caused due to natural calamities. The death of an individual is a huge loss to his family and not to his company or industries because the company may replace an alternate source for a particular work.”
K Balakrishna, chairman of National Safety Council Action Centre, in his presidential address said, “Every year, March 4 is observed as the National Safety Day in India. It was implemented after 1972, but the body was registered in 1966. After the Bopal tragedy (1984), the safety and prevention of concept rightly strengthened as a whole in India. The incident put the whole of India into shame.”
