Pleasant Thursday, Respite from Biting Cold


New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS): After braving chilly mornings for the last few days, a relatively warmer morning greeted Delhiites Thursday. The skies cleared up as the day advanced, with slight respite from the bone-chilling cold.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) here Thursday's minimum temperature settled at 5.8 degrees Celsius, two notches below average.

"The light veil of fog cover in the morning will clear up as the day progresses. The cold winds will return in the evening. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius," the IMD official said.

But an early morning fog led to 25 trains getting delayed and 11 trains cancelled, a Northern Railway spokesman said.

Visibility in the city at 8.30 a.m was 1,200 metres.

Wednesday's minimum temperature was 4.4 degrees Celsius and maximum was 20.9 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said the coldest day of the season so far was Jan 6 when the minimum temperature dropped to 1.9 degrees Celsius.
