Mangalore, Jan 11: With a view to increase tourist arrivals to Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) conducted a programme showcasing Thai culture here on Friday January 11.
Thai art and dance, and other special attractions were displayed during the press meet held at Hotel Gateway.
In 2011, Thailand received a total number of 9,16,787 Indian tourists, which is a growth of 20.57 percent over the previous year and in 2012 Thailand received a total number of 10,16,013 tourist arrivals from India, an increase of 11 percent.
Through the programme, TAT aimed at increasing awareness and educating the Indian traveller on Thailand’s existing and new tourism products. It will focus on the different facets that Thailand has to offer — be it adventure, culture, wedding and honeymoon or MICE.
As a part of the strategy for 2013, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will be promoting newer destinations in Northern Thailand including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Khao Yai along with attractions from South- Trang, Surat Thani and Koh Samui.
Speaking on the occasion, Sethaphan Buddhani, director, TAT Mumbai office said, “India’s mass travellers come from the smaller pockets of the country and with the increasing travel spends of an average Indian, we see Mangalore as a market where we would like to expand and grow with. All destinations are inexpensive ones."
Furthermore, TAT also plans to organise familiarization trips for trade as well as media focusing on medical tourism, wedding, golfing, biking and eco-tourism in Thailand, he added.

Sun, Jan 13 2013Why Thai Govt. not reinstating the rule Visa on Arrival for Indians, instead of current practice of securing the visa stamped before leaving the country. It is cumbersome and additional expense for the travelers to pay the travel agency for the service.

Sat, Jan 12 2013India is a Nation of multifarious cultures.Every Mai,Bai ,Rai, Pai adopts a different culture. By
borrowing the Thai culture some of the vultures will start commenting this as a Western or Italian culture. Tourist enjoy the tour. But leave this culture Thai to their own Land.

Sat, Jan 12 2013Thailand is a wonderful place, I have visited it many times and keep going there for more. Beautiful beaches, cheap cost of living and nice people, not many brothers looming around like in kadaparram beach and Naimarmoola. Hope weekly flights are arranged b/w Mangalore and Bangkok.

Fri, Jan 11 2013Because they are liberal and open minded. Indians are hopelessly selfish, finding faults and blame the west.
