Rs 700-crore Land grab Case against Asaram Bapu

Mumbai, Jan 16(PTI) : Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has ran into fresh trouble with the Serious Fraud Investigating Office (SFIO) seeking his prosecution in a Rs 700 crore land grab case in Madhya Pradesh.

The case pertains to 200 acres of land in Ratlam and the SFIO, which wants to prosecute Asaram and his son under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and Companies Act 1956, recently send its recommendation to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in this regard.

"We have received the recommendation from SFIO to prosecute Asaram Bapu, his son Narayan Sai and some others in the case and its under consideration," said a senior official from Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The land, located on the Delhi-Pune freight corridor in MP belongs to Jayant Vitamins Limited and was allegedly grabbed in 2000 and is being used by them since then, sources said.

JVL is a public limited company which was delisted from the Bombay Stock Exchange in 2004 for defaulting on the mandatory listing fees which companies pay to the stock exchanges to list themselves.

The company used to be a major player in glucose and vitamin supply to other pharma companies.

Interestingly, though JVL did not complain about the matter, a shareholder of the company approached the Ministry with the complaint of mismanagement (of company's properties) following which it (ministry) transferred the complaint to SFIO in 2010 for investigation.

The SFIO after investigating the case over two years now, sent its recommendation to the Ministry.

Asaram was recently in the eye of a storm over his remarks on the Delhi gang-rape victim.

@ George: Maybe the Govt is trying to divert attention by beating war drums on such issues, Doesnt mean that the criminals (be it however small) get away. Remember, these are ISSUES that have to be dealt with in one of other form. We have to start at some point.. I am just hoping that slowly we will weed out corruption at least by 25% of what its at today..

For long the people of this nation have been taken for a jolly good ride while the corrupt have only prospered. The rich got richer while the Avg and the poor only got poorer..

Shame on such dhongi Baba`s,Priests and Fakirs who amass millions and shame on all of us for encouraging them with our belief and support to them.

We go to these Idiots because our lives are stressful and we cant live a peaceful life? Are these men and women touched by God?? They only preach and dont practice. The only mantra these dhongi babas follow is to amass as much wealth as possible..

@Roshan-Mumbai, apropos your comment, bro, just cannot imagine how this issue is connected to some personal comment???

Read carefully the news item, a company (Jayant Vitamins) set up with public money (our money) and listed on the stock exchanges (subsequently delisted for not being able to pay MEAGER LISTING FEES) not objecting to a land grab of 200 acres of (public property) worth 700 cores??? And a singular shareholder taking up the issue???

For one minute, just forget politics, religion, or any other issues, just think with an open mind, what it could be??? Just think about the shareholders who pumped their hard earned money in this company??? All in the name of God!!!!!!!!!!!!

Asaram was partially right with his comments. There is enough media bashing against men and over hype about female victims. Justice is in place , lets make fair to both parties.

Dear Lydia Lobo, we are actually run silently by dictators - BJP & Congress - two faces of the same coin. Our Police, CBI, Lawyers  run as per their command.
This is the kind of Democracy we live in. Now to divert the public's mind away from their looting SCAMS, they are beating the WAR drums.

    Gerald,

Can you point out one woman from your list who is posted in the judiciary ? How come you understand that a law can be enacted overnight and justice granted ? Are we ruled by dictatorship or democracy ?

Common young man, entire nation is hurt alright but a law got to be there to punish an offender. There is a democratic system functioning let it do the job.

If justice was to be given by hook or crook, be prepared that you too will be dealt by same yardstick which you will surely lament against !

    Gerald,

Didn't you read above that the case has been under investigation since two years ? As such, you can't say the case against is revenge against his freedom to speak ? Even though you could be right revenge by who ? Nirbhaya, her family or the women who are hurt by what is said by Asaram ?

That is quite absurd of you.
