Mangalore, Jan 18: Konkani book titled `Vachtam Vachtam' by Stephen Quadros Permude was released here at the St Aloysius College A V Room, on tuesday, January 15 by Fr Basil Vas, parish priest of Alangar Church, Moodbidri.

Fr Basil Vas lauded the efforts of Stephen Quadros who has already published more than ten books in Konkani.

Edwin JF D'Souza, who was guest of honour during the occasion admitted that Stephen Quadros' book has brought him close to poetry for the first time in his life.

Dr Alwyn D'Sa, professor of English, St Aloysius College and Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor, Raknno Konkani weekly spoke on the occasion.

Stephen Quadros Permude, author of the book, said the book was a study with specific reference to Konkani. “Konkani literature needs this kind of work because our scope is limited by our own people,” he said. There was not much work in the language on literary criticism, travelogues, biographies and autobiographies. As he kept reading Konkani literary works, he was influenced by them and wrote the book that deals with aspects such as Konkani drama and short stories.

Titus Noronha, who has published the book in the name of his parents, Paul and Cecilia Noronha Foundation welcomed the gathering. Victor Mathias compered the programme.
