Mangalore: City unit of Alva's Nudisiri inaugurated

Mangalore, Jan 20: “Dr Mohan Alva’s initiative to uphold Kannada language and indigenous culture of the country with various programmes like Nudisiri, Virasat is laudable. He has maintained the true value of education through various cultural, literary, education related activities,” said professor Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, Department of Kannada, Mangalore University.

He spoke after inaugurating the Alva’s Nudisiri Managlore unit at Milagres College campus in the city on Saturday January 19.

“Parents often fear that their children would lag behind in studies if they participate in cultural activities. But Alva’s Institution which has been frequently organizing cultural activities along with fostering education has obliterated such notions, which is commendable”, he said.

Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Moodbidri Alva’s Education Foundation said that when new global challenges arise, language and culture have to be presented in new forms. In this regard, World Alva’s Nudisiri will be held this December on the theme ‘Language and culture: yesterday, today, tomorrow’. Preparations are on for the World Alva’s Nudisiri, with units already being established in eight taluks of the district. Efforts have been made to open units in all districts in the state and various other states. The overseas Kannada enthusiasts are being informed, he said.

Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator of Father Muller Medical College presided over the programme.

Dr M Mohan Alva was honoured on the occasion. 

Harikrishna Punaroor, former state president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Fr F X Gomes, principal of Milagres College, Dr Damodar Shetty, Satyanarayana Mallipatna, Srinivas Deshpande were present.

Sudharaani, lecturer, Alva's College proposed the vote of thanks.
