Trinamool leader makes personal attacks on political rivals

Kolkata, Jan 25 (IANS): Infamous for propagating hatred for CPI-M among party workers, Trinamool Congress leader Jyotipriya Mallick Thursday made personal attacks on several opposition leaders, prompting the Congress to mull taking legal action against him.

"CPI-M is like a snake. What you do when a snake enters your house? Do the same when you see a CPI-M worker. Never talk, eat or mix with such people," said Mallick, also the state food and supplies minister.

Addressing party workers at Birati in North 24 Parganas, Mallick took jibes at several Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leaders including former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

"Brand Buddha has been banned. These days he addresses people only in places like Barasat, Baranagar etc because in other places women are waiting with brooms to chase him away," he said.

Mallick was severe in his attacks on three Congress union ministers from Bengal, making personal attacks on them. He even called Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury "a murderer".

Reacting to Mallick's comments, Chowdhury said: "They (the Trinamool) are in power. (Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee has even constituted a commission to probe an incident which happened over 40 years back. Why doesn't she set up a commission to probe whether I am a murderer?"

Union minister of state for health and family welfare Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury said he was in talks with his party on taking legal action against Mallick.

Mallick has made bizarre prescriptions earlier as well. He not only asked his party workers to resist marrying CPI-M workers but also advised them not to see their rivals' faces as it would bring bad luck.

"While going out never look at their (CPI-M supporters) faces for it would bring bad luck to you. You may even end up getting crushed under the wheels," Mullick has been saying at several party rallies.
