Three arrested in Delhi for smuggling tiger skin


New Delhi, Jan 25 (IANS): A factory owner, jeweller and share-broker were arrested in Delhi Friday for smuggling a tiger skin worth around Rs.1 crore, police said.

"Dinesh, Surjeet and Rajan, all in their late 30s, were arrested from Madhu Vihar in east Delhi Friday and the skin seized," a senior police officer said.

Police said that the raid was conducted on basis of a tip-off received from animal welfare organisation People For Animals (PFA).

Dinesh run a small factory making jeans and used it to hide the skins for sending to other states, officer said.

Surjeet owns a jewellery shop in North Delhi while Rajan works as a share broker.

A case under the sections of Wildlife Protection Act has been registered against them, the officer said.
