Bangalore, Jan 27: St Josephs College (SJC), Bangalore celebrated 64th Republic Day by hoisting of the National Flag at the college ground, here, amidst a crowd that gathered.

Dr Fr Daniel Fernandes, principal of SJC unfurled the National Flag escorted by protocol office bearers, staff, student representatives and coordinators of various associations.

G Anup Lal, chief protocol officer then welcomed various associations’ representatives present, who came forward to welcome and greet the chief guest Dr Fr Daniel Fernandes and Fr Clarence D’Souza, vice principal (humanities section). Dr Fr Fernandes then administered the oath to those present, which was followed by his address.

Addressing the gathering Dr Fr Fernandes gave a heartwarming message quoting Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. He said, “Republic day is just not a day of celebration but a day of dedication”. He ended his speech by congratulating Dr Michael Rajamathi for his success in achieving the Sir CV Raman Award by the government of Karnataka for the youngest scientist in chemistry.
 
Fr D’souza was also called upon to deliver a few words. Fr D’Souza gave a brief history and the significance of the day. He proudly lifted his voice by saying “Our nation is great, Mera Bharat Mahan, God bless our country, Jai hind”.
 
The ceremony came to an end with the national salute by Dr Somashekariah who also led the students cheering to the slogan “Jai Hind” filled with the spirit of nationalism.
