Udupi: Students attempt suicide – two die, one survives

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 3: Three students from Bangalore, studying in second PU class of the government PU college in Channapatna, reportedly tried to end their lives near Kadike near Badinidiyoor, Thottam, Malpe here on Sunday February 3 morning.

Two male students died, while the condition of the lone girl student, Saumya (18), is precarious. She is being treated in the intensive care unit of the government hospital here.

The deceased have been identified as Madhu (19) and Hemant (19). They were residents of Ramanagara district near Bangalore.

It is learnt that all the three went missing several days back, and a missing complaint was filed in Ramanagara police station ten days ago. It is gathered that Hemant and Saumya were in love, but their families were opposed to the alliance.

The three arrived at the sea shore near Malpe on Saturday afternoon, and ate supper mixed with insecticide at night. The poison did not have the desired impact on Saumya as she vomited immediately after consuming food.

The information above was provided by Saumya, who was able to talk to the policemen for some time, before becoming seriously sick again.

Hemant was from Kanva village while Saumya belongs to Anamanahalli. Madhu, hailing from Timmanadoddi village, was a close friend of Saumya.

Saumya went missing along with some gold ornaments on January 22. Hemant and Madhu also left their respective homes on this day. The family members of Madhu lodged police complaint on January 26 after conducting a thorough search at various places including houses of relatives, while missing complaint of Saumya was lodged on January 31. However, parents of Hemant, who were confident that their son would come back, did not lodge any complaint, it is learnt.

The locals, who found three lying in the sand on the beach Sunday morning, passed on the information to the local policemen. By then, Madhu had died, and the policemen carried both Hemant and Saumya, who were in semi-conscious state, to the hospital in ambulance. However, Hemant succumbed in the hospital, without responding to treatments.

Malpe police have registered a case. Investigations are on.

Must be very very tragic to family and freinds of these teenagers.Of late the incidence of teen sucides are in the increase.Parents must be more understanding towards their chilldren and talk to them more oftern and treat them as freinds and counsel them . Education about all these love issues may perhaps be given in colleges in the moral science classes.

Before taking this extreme step in life children have to think of their parents who gave birth and took care of them. This is the third case from Bangalore in the recent times where students travel to Mangalore/Udupi just for committing suicide. Suicide has become common among teenagers..!!!

    Sumi, Kundapur,

Does your life revolve around a TV ? If you refrain from exposing them to the TV, do you think you have concealed all that is happening around ? Talk to them lady share their doubts and clear what is right and wrong. My little one told me about an affair in 2nd standard - can you believe it ? With proper guidance the teenager now knows what is right and wrong.

I am not lecturing but am living it practically - believe it or not !

The teens do not realize the pain their parents and relatives would go through with their irresponsible and immature action. Its high time teens get good counselling when they are in academic studies so that they are more oriented towards justifying the efforts what their parents have put on their upbringing. This is one of the bizarre way one could die and clearly it was the whisper of satan. sorry for the loss of lives.

We feel sorry for these children but I wonder since our Bangalore Leaders comes to Mangalore region to show their strength but few people come to Mangalore to commit suicide. Hemant and Saumya were in love but what happened with Madhu and why did he committed suicide? When our children knows the true meaning of “Pyaar aur Chahat” I think no one will resort to this kind of act

Is 18 & 19 a age to fall in love ? Even if your families had accepted your alliance, how would you have lived ? Do you have an income ? Have you completed your studies so that you find a job ?

Well, the two were in love - what about the third ? A Sudhama ? Now two precious lives are lost the third if pulls through, what is the degree of impact of pesticide on your life ? Will your family and the society allow you to live a normal life ?

Young girls/boys, think of your parents who go through hell to raise you. Is this what you are giving them in return ? Shame..
