'Stop Lankan president's visits to India'


Chennai, Feb 5 (IANS): The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisaton (TESO) will protest here Feb 8 against the India visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

DMK MPs would meet the envoys of 41 countries to impress upon them the plight of Tamils in the island nation, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said here Monday.

Queried about the red carpet welcome extended by the Indian government to Rajapaksa everytime he visits India, Karuananidhi said: "We will protest against his visits wearing black."

In a resolution, TESO urged the Indian government not to encourage India visits by Rajapaksa.

Rajapaksa is visiting Bodh Gaya in Bihar and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh Feb 8.

Earlier, TESO members urged the government to set up a naval base at Mandapam in Tamil Nadu and support the US sponsored resolution against the Lankan government in the UN.

The meeting also decided to hold demonstrations against the attacks on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy at Rameswaram Feb 18 and at Nagapattinam Feb 19.
