Kasargod: Girl's alertness lands mobile phone thieves in police net

Kasargod, Feb 5: Police arrested two persons who stole a mobile phone belonging to a Dalit girl from Badiyadka on train and then allegedly blackmailed her.

The arrested have been identified as Hamza (20) and Mohammed Shafi (22) from Mallapuram.

As per the information obtained, the girl’s mobile phone and some cash were stolen on the Ernakulam-Kasargod train on January 31. As the train was nearing Swarnur, the girl found that her belongings were missing. She then filed a complaint with Swarnur police.

Meanwhile when the girl reached Kasargod after filing the complaint, another girl who had accompanied her got a call from the stolen phone. The thieves over the phone said that they had stolen the phone. After two days, they again started threatening her. They even asked her to collect her phone from Ernakulam.

When the girl said that she does not have money to come to Ernakulam, the thieves in turn agreed to come to Kasargod. The information was passed on to Kasargod police who arrested the thieves in Kasargod.

    The entire incident indicates that the intention is not only theft but some thing else serious.

    The police should investigate the case thouroughly from all angles and find out the real intention of the culprits.
