Udupi, Feb 6: In yet another case of fraud, a man allegedly duped people to the tune of Rs 65 lac by not repaying their investments in a website.

The accused has been identified as Umesh Johari from Uttar Pradesh.

Umesh is said to have opened a website 'www.bidhereindia.com' a year back, wherein he published an advertisement in the name of M/Mengal Mai Pariwar Maketing Private Limited.

In this website, people were invited to invest a minimum of Rs 10,000 and also win products by placing the highest bids.

In the same way, he had asked Preethesh Shetty to transfer money to his ICICI bank account. Accordingly, Preethesh deposited a sum of Rs 6 lac from February 2012 till March. Umesh also asked Preethesh to get five of his friends to join this business. Preethesh then persuaded 5 of his friends to join the website and together they invested a sum of Rs 65 lac, on an assurance from Umesh that they would get more in return.

However, Umesh did not return their money.

A case has been registered by Preethesh Shetty at Udupi city police station.
