Mangalore, Feb 8: In a startling incident, a person in a state of intoxication hit his wife on the head with a club. After she fell unconscious, he slashed his own legs with a sickle, and lost his life due to excessive bleeding.

The incident took place near Kurudapadav on Wednesday February 6 night.

The deceased has been identified as Raveendra (42).

As per the information obtained, on Wednesday night Raveendra in a drunken stupor came home and started a quarrel with his wife Usha. He then allegedly hit her head with a club after which she collapsed.

Assuming that he had killed his wife, he ran out of the house in fear and slashed his leg with a sickle.
Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and Manjeshwar police were called.

The police took Raveendra to Uppala hospital but he died on the way.

The couple’s daughter, Anushree, informed the locals about the quarrel. They admitted Usha, who had suffered deep wound on her head, to a hospital in Manjeshwar.

Sources said that Raveendra used to come home drunk frequently and torture Usha. For this reason, their two children Praveen and Rohini have been staying at relative's house. At the time of the incident, their daughter Anushree was home.

A case has been registered in the Manjeshwar police station.
