Santa Cruz (Spain), Feb 11 (IANS/EFE): Five crewmen from a British cruise ship docked in Santa Cruz de La Palma, a city in Spain's Canary Islands, were killed and three injured Sunday when a lifeboat plunged into the water during an evacuation drill, authorities said.
The lifeboat fell into the water from a height of about 30 meters with the eight crewmen aboard.
About 2,000 passengers are aboard the Thomson Majesty, which belongs to Britain's Thomson Cruises, but none of the travellers was injured.
The unidentified victims are from Indonesia, the Philippines and Ghana, while two Greeks and a Filipino were injured, the Civil Guard, which is investigating the accident, said.
The Thomson Majesty, whose home port is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, offers cruises around the Canary Islands and to the Portuguese island of Madeira - part of the Azores - regularly docking Sundays in Santa Cruz de La Palma.
