Mangalore: SJEC holds foundation day lecture

Mangalore, Feb 13: St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor organized “foundation day lecture” on Monday February 11 at the Seminar Hall, Mechanical Block of the College.

Professor Swapan Bhattacharya, director, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal was the chief guest. The solemn ceremony started with prayer song. Fr Joseph Lobo, director SJEC, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering.

Dr Prakash Pinto, dean MBA and convener of the programme introduced the eminent personality professor Swapan Bhattacharya for the gathering. Professor Swapan Bhattacharya, who was recently declared as the recipient of the ET NOW National Education Leadership Award for the current year, addressed on “Challenges in Technical Higher Education- Perspectives, Issues and Concerns”.

Speaking on this occasion, he highlighted that the progress of the country is based on the academic excellence of its population. He stressed on creating the handholding between society and academic, research institutions and industry. The action needs to be taken to support, sustain and expansion in the education system. He also emphasized on the high disparity of the quality within the education system. He proposed problem solving approach throughout curriculum.

On this auspicious occasion, a new programme named Continuous Professional Development Programme (CDPD) was launched for the staff and students of the college which was inaugurated by the chief guest professor Swapan Bhattacharya by releasing the brochures. Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal  highlighted  that CDPD is an in house programme that brings internet –based webinar and other resources within reach of the  staff and students of the college.

Professor Swapan Bhattacharya was felicitated by the management of the college for being awarded as ET NOW National Education Leadership Award.

Fr Joseph Lobo, director SJEC, Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant directors, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal, Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal and Dr Prakash Pinto, dean MBA and convener of the programme were the other dignitaries on the dais. The head of the departments, members of governing board, members of governing council, faculty members and invitees were also present.
 
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal of the college. The programme was concluded by singing the college anthem.
