Shinde regrets 'Hindu terrorism' remarks

New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS): A day ahead of parliament's budget session, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Wednesday expressed regret for his "Hindu terrorism" remark that threatened to stall the functioning of the house and was roundly criticised by the BJP.

"Since my statement created controversy, I express regret," Shinde said in a statement.

"I had no intention to link terrorism with any religion…My statement given in Jaipur last month has created misunderstanding," Shinde said.

Shinde had made "Hindu terrorism" and "saffron terrorism" remarks at the Congress chintan shivir at Jaipur last month triggering strong protests from the Bharatiya Janata Party and some other organisations.

The issue threatened to cast its shadow over the budget session of parliament as the BJP had decided it will not respond to any communication from Shinde as Leader of the House in Lok Sabha

The party had also decided it will boycott public programmes of Shinde till he apologized for his remarks.

BJP raised the issue of Shinde's remarks at the all party meeting called by Speaker Meira Kumar Wednesday and said the matter should be resolved first.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and colleagues Arun Jaitley, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar were detained along with a mass of supporters at Jantar Mantar in the heart of the capital when they sought to take out a march to protest Shinde's remarks.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath had given an indication of government's desire to resolve the issue after an all-party meeting.

He said the government would find a solution to the issue.

Sources said Shinde and Sushma Swaraj met in presence of speaker Meira Kumar after the all-party meeting.

The Arabic people who coined the word “Hind “address every Indian as “Hindi” irrespective of their color and religion what they profess. So all of us become Hindustani. We should feel proud about it. Why we need compartmentalization our society by colors?

What is a big deal in offering an apology for any issue. In the west, every other sentence in a conversation, one would say - I am sorry about it- even for silly things. They don't feel being belittle. I work among a big crowd of westerners, for me this is very common. But in our country, if one utters a word 'sorry', the other would think, he won the battle and the person apologized lost his credibility.

We should see Mr. Shinde's 'regret' as his nobleness and modesty and that will also help pave the way to a smooth sailing of Parliament session.

Agreed, he should not have used "hindu terrorist".

Instead, just like how westerns call "islamists" or "islamic terrorism" (and NOT "muslim terorism"), Shinde should have used the word "Hindutva terrorism" which again, has nothing to do with hinduism.

Even in christianity, the word is "crusaders" (and not "christian terrorism"), when during middle ages they forcibly gathered together to wage war against the islamic forces of ottoman empire that was threatening to conquer western Europe. In modern day, the current form of voilent "christian terrorism" is probably race-based, where racist, white supremacists like 'Aryan Nation' or 'KKK', try to propogate their white, european race over other christian races.

Probably the only religion that does not have "terrorists" in its folds is buddhism, but even that is also slowly seen in Sri Lanka, where the hindu tamils are being subjucated to total dominance.

    Mr HM
Considering the Post that you are in, you should be very careful in what you say knowing well the repercussions. Once You are a HM, politics, religion, appeasement everything should take a backseat
and your 'Oath' and 'Oath'only which you took during your swearing in ceremony should be a guide for you. This holds true in case of every politician who gets a 'berth' to serve his country. Why do you 'covet' it otherwise?

I wish and hope the controversy on the issue will bury herewith for good. Shinde,in fact issued a statement based on input made available by his own HOME DEPARTMENT.Generalizing a sensitive issue like TERRORISM is not good for the health of civilized society.I repeat, all Muslims are not terrorist but all accused are in fact Muslims... Likewise....

Shinde had made the statement to appease his madam and there by move up the ladder in his corrupt career.

Shinde was scared that he will be asked to prove his statement in the session. In addition, an anti-defamatory case has been filed in supreme court. So all these have made him to realize that he was wrong at his statement.

But this clearly tells us that congress has no hesitation for anything for vote bank politics. They can stoop down to any level.
