New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS): Rebel players Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambhri and Sanam Singh were selected in India's Davis Cup squad for the first round play-off tie against Indonesia to be held in Bangalore from April 5-7.
Somdev and Yuki will be playing the singles while Sanam is likely to partner Leander Paes in the doubles.
The doubles combination, however, will be decided by coach Zeeshan Ali and non-playing captain Shiv Prakash Misra, for whom it will be a farewell tie.
Doubles specialist Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, despite their higher rankings, failed to find a place in the side. The two players, who defied the selection committee to play together in the London Games, were sidelined for 2014 but a court order had stayed the ban.
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) selectors, however, claimed that since they wanted to have three singles and one doubles specialist in the team, so there was no place for Bhupathi and Bopanna.
Shiram Balaji and Vijayant Malik are among the two reserves.
The selection committee also discussed and unanimously felt that to encourage the juniors, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Arjun Khade, should be invited to practice with the team.
