Mukul Sangma elected as CLP leader

Shillong, Mar 1 (IANS): Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Friday was elected the Congress legislature party (CLP) leader, said a party source. This makes him retain his post as the chief minister.

The Congress emerged as the single largest party in Meghalaya by securing 29 seats, two short of majority in the 60-member assembly.

Sangma retained his Ampati constituency for the fifth time, defeating his closest rival from the National People's Party (NPP) by more than 9,000 votes.
