Suresh Kumar releases BJP manifesto

Mangalore, Mar 1: Karnataka state law minister Suresh Kumar on Friday March 1 released the BJP manifesto at party''s district office.

Addressing the gathering, he recalled the contributions of the late Dr V S Acharya and said that he had played a major role in Karnataka politics.

“On this occasion I remember the great politician the late Dr V S Acharya, who played a major role in Karnataka politics especially when preparing effective budgets for the people. He came into politics at the age of 28 years and became the president of the Udupi City Corporation in 1968. In his area, he abolished the system of manual scavenging even without any government order," Suresh Kumar said.

He also lauded Mangalore city as one best cities in the nation.

"Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has utilized all of the Rs 200 crore from the chief minister’s fund for the development of the city. The MCC has demanded more to make the city a role model to society. The fund was utilized in the right way by providing drinking water, constructing, repairing, and tarring roads," he said.

"In future, 50 percent of the people of Karnataka will reside in urban areas and this manifesto has been planned keeping that in mind. Work which was not completed in 25 years was completed in five years,” he said.

• Roads of Mangalore city to be broadened and increased to high level standard; in many places the drainage and footpath work is in progress.
• 24*7 drinking water facilities in the all wards of the city.
• Resolving the problem of vehicle parking in the city(multi-level parking system).
• Pressure the government to build Nanthoor Juction over the bridge.
• Full-fledged fish and mutton, flower, fruits, and vegetable market in the city.
• Development of parks, road side plants in the city.
• Air conditioned convention hall to support cultural activities.
• To promote housing projects in the city with help of MUDA.
• Considering the traffic in the city, bus stands and ‘bus bays’ are to be constructed.

• Solid wastes are collected from all wards and segregated and used for constructing the bio gas plantation and generating electricity out of it.
• Providing housing facilities for the people, who are below the poverty level.
• To ease traffic, flyovers are being constructed in the city.
• Special support, prominence to sports, athletics, and for sport activities.
• Providing good health and medical facilities to the public by developing primary health centers and collaborating with private firms.

Oscar Fernandes releases Congress manifesto

Meanwhile, the district Congress too released its manifesto for the upcoming local body elections. The manifesto was released by Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes.

"Corporation is a system whose primary duty is to respond to the people''s needs. Providing basic facilities, good infrastructure like roads, sanitation, communication and transportation is its responsibility," said Oscar Fernandes.

"Mangalore should become the Silicon Valley city of the world in future days. Mangalore is one of the prime centers for education, trade and commerce, and banking in the country. So it is the MCC''s responsibility to provide drinking water, special provision for SC/ST and so on. Considering these aspects, the Congress manifesto was prepared, aimed at the overall well-being of the people," he said.

Former union minister Janardhan Poojary inaugurated the new office for the party’s activities in preparation for the forthcoming elections. He stressed that Congress will not increase property tax or self assessment tax.

"If Congress comes to power it will give good administration to the people and protect and uphold communal harmony and peace in the society," he said.
