President leaves on Bangladesh visit


New Delhi, Mar 3 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee left here Sunday morning on a three-day visit to Bangladesh.

Mukherjee, in his first trip abroad after assuming the presidency, is accompanied by Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and four MPs. His wife Suvra Mukherjee is also accompanying him.

He is to call on Bangladesh President M. Zillur Rahman and receive the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour Award.

The president is expected to meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia.

He returns Tuesday night.
