Mangalore: FMMC to hold Eye-Tech on Mar 10

Mangalore, Mar 8: Eye science has advanced in leaps and bounds. Over the recent years, newer investigation techniques have evolved helping in early and accurate diagnosis of diseases. With the aim of keeping the clinical practitioner up-to-date with these innovations, the department of ophthalmology, Father Muller Medical College is conducting Eye-Tech 2013, a CME on Investigations in ophthalmology on March 10 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Decennial Memorial Hall, Father Muller Medical College.

Over 200 ophthalmologists from all over Karnataka and other parts are expected to attend the CME.

The CME is being held under the aegis of Karnataka Ophthalmic Society and South Kanara Ophthalmic Society. Many topics like corneal topography, retinal angiogram, ultrasound of the eye, electrical tests of the eye, ct scan and mri scan of the eye and glaucoma investigations will be discussed by eminent speakers.

Inauguration of CME will be at 9.45 am at Decennial Memorial Hall, Father Muller Medical College. Fr Patric Rodrigues will preside, Dr Nitin Shetty, Vetrio-retinal surgeon, Manipal hospital, Bangalore and Dr Rohit Shetty, vice-chairman Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore will be guests of honour.

The department will also be organizing a glaucoma awareness walk to commemorate World Glaucoma Week (March 10 -16).  Glaucoma 'the silent thief of sight' is a leading cause for permanent blindness. Most forms of glaucoma cause slow loss of vision which may remain undetected till nerve damage is advanced. We cannot reverse this damage. Therefore awareness among the middle aged population about regular eye check – up is the need of the hour.

The students of Father Muller Medical College will be staging a street play to create on the 10th of March, 2013 at Kankanady Maidan at 8.30am along with an awareness talk. This will be followed by glaucoma awareness walk to the Father Muller Medical College campus via Karavali circle. The public is invited to join hands with the institution in this endeavor.
