Mangalore, Mar 8: The women’s cell of St Agnes College organized a one-day workshop on ‘Holistic development of women - towards empowerment’ to commemorate the International Women’s Day on Friday March 8.
Manjusha Bhatnagar, general manager, HR, MRPL was the chief guest at the inaugural programme and Dr Sr Prem D'Souza, principal St Agnes College presided over the function.
Manjusha in her address to the students encouraged them to be confident and work towards their aim.
The sessions of the day planned for the students began with a talk on ‘women violence and law’ followed by a programme by the alumni association.
The Agnesian alumni honoured young achievers of the current academic year in four different fields.
Falen Lasrado, student president, St agnes college received the Agnesian Student Leader of the year. The award has been instituted by Carol Pais Coelho in memory of her late parents Philip and Marriette Pais. Lavie Rebello gave a brief introduction about Falen stating that she is an all rounder and excels in extra curricular and academics equally. Sr Prem D'Souza felicitated Falen with a sash; Saramma congratulated her with a bouquet while Carol Pais Coelho presented a memento to her.
The title of Most Talented Student of the year was awarded to Liane Helen Noronha. Diana Lasrado presented her with a bouquet; Sr Prem a sash and Jane D'souza gave her a memento Charlotte Mascarenhas introduced Liane as of the most gifted student with her talents ranging from organization skills and interest in various art forms.
The Agnesian Scholar of the Year award was bestowed on Chaitra; the award being instituted by Dr Meera Aranha. In her introduction about Chaitra, Astrid Martis said that one the best academic students, Chaitra is also an amazing dancer and singer. Sr Prem presented her with a sash; Sheela Tauro with bouquet and Dr Meera Aranha presented her a memento.
Shruthi V A was the recipient for the Agnesian Sportswoman of the Year, instituted by Daisy Menezes Coelho. Leah Mascarenhas introduced Shruthi and said she was inclined towards sports as a child as her father V L Anand was a national level hockey player. Her father insisted on her joining the basketball team and hence it has now become her passion. Sr Prem presented Shruthi with a sash, Joy D'Souza with a bouquet and Daisy Coelho a memento.
The welcome address was delivered by alumni vice-president Edel Gonsalves, while Clotilda Fernandes thanked all for being a part of the programme.
The alumni conveyed their blessings and wishes on all the outgoing students for their future goals.
Later during the day, Shammi Shiri and group, Manipal University will organize a short sessionion on ‘Atrocities against women’.
Dr Venkatesh Sanjeeva, oncologist, will present the last session for the day.
The valedictory programme will be held at 3:30 pm with professor Irene Veigas, department of community medicine as the chief guest.
