Udupi: International Women’s Day celebrated at Congress Bhavan

Udupi, Mar 9: International Women’s Day was celebrated at Congress Bhavan on Friday March 8.

Sunitha Lobo (floor hockey), Vanaja (caretaker of crematorium at Beedinagudde) and three educationalists from Koraga community Dr Babu, Sabitha and Dinesh Kanjoor were honoured on the occasion.

“Women should be given equal opportunities with men. UPA government has given equal importance to women while the state government is always ignorant. The state government has not give importance to 50% reservation of seats for women in elections. Women should fight together for their rights and stand united,” Shamala Bhandary.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi block Congress president, Veronica Carnalio, Congress women’s wing president, Vasanth Salian, former minister, Gopal Poojary among others were present.
