Judge shot dead in Russia

Moscow, Mar 10 (IANS/RIA Novosti): A judge was shot dead in Russia's volatile southwestern Dagestan region, investigators said Sunday.

The killer came to federal judge Akhmed Radzhabov's house Saturday night, called for him and then fired seven shots, killing him instantly.

The attack occurred in Izberbash city on the Caspian Sea coast. This was the second murder of a judge in Dagestan in two months.

An Islamist insurgency, once confined largely to Chechnya, has spread in recent years. Attacks on police and civilians are reported regularly in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
