Man dies in morgue freezer after confusion over two bodies

Moscow, Mar 14 (IANS/RIA Novosti): A man froze to death in Russia's Pskov region, having been put in a morgue freezer alive after the staff confused his body with another corpse, officials said.

Doctors discovered a 57-year-old man in his apartment in February and said he had to be taken to the morgue after pronouncing him dead, where he was put in a freezer.

However, a forensic investigation showed that the man was still alive when he arrived at the morgue.

The man was brought to the morgue and left there by his relatives when no medical personnel was present, the Pskov administration said.

This lead the morgue personnel to later confuse two bodies and put the man in the freezer.

"It's inadmissible when bodies are brought to the morgue, there are no doctors around and relatives have to take the keys and carry the bodies inside themselves," Pskov governor Andrei Turchak said.
