Udupi, Mar 14: Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Wednesday March 13 visited the prayer hall in Moodubelle which was attacked recently by members Bajrang Dall and expressed anger at the cowardly act.

At a press meet on the issue, held at Congress Bhavan, he strongly opposed Bajrang Dal's act and sought a clarification from them on the issue.

“In our country, everyone has the right to freedom of expression and we should respect the other person’s beliefs. No one has the right to force another one on what to do and what not,” he added.

“Believing in one religion or surrendering himself to another religious belief cannot be questioned. However, this does not mean that they are converted,” he added.

Poojary sympathized with Ramesh who is still admitted in KMC with a fracture and internal and external wounds, and the aged mother of Roshan Lobo.

He met with the patients and heard their story behind their belief in the Bible society. Poojary stressed that  Dakshina Kannada is known for religious harmony, and the best example are the thousands of devotees from various religions who visit Attur church and also Dharmasthala, Subrahmanya and Krishna Math. “We cannot stop anyone because people over here keep faith in different religions,” he added.

He said that the government should take strict action under Goonda Act and sweep out violence from the society. “Politics is not dependent on ‘goondas’ and cheap activity like this to get votes is not the right thing,” he added. Poojary requested the Supreme Court to implement strict laws.

“The Congress leaders should learn from BJP what happens to the party when all its leaders are corrupt, over confident and spare no time for the poor. Winning of ULBs polls does not mean that Congress is safe. Congressmen should be aware and work hard to get success. Power is not permanent but being humane is our responsibility,” he added.

He said the party had planned to give the oath to all Congress workers and leaders at Nehru Maidan on Monday March 18 in the name of transparency and truthfulness.

He strongly condemned Yeddyurappa for his statement, “complete destruction of BJP is my dream and I will do that". Poojary said, “Yeddy’s statement shows his character. By destroying BJP you have destroyed yourself, you are nothing and standing nowhere now,” he jeered.
