Swiss woman gangrape: MP minister blames victim

Bhopal, Mar 17 (PTI): Terming as "unfortunate" the incident of gangrape of a Swiss woman, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta today said foreign tourists were not following rules about informing local police about their movements.

"What happened is unfortunate for our nation. When foreign tourists come, they should inform the SP (Superintendent of Police) about their plans. This is the system but it is not being followed," he said.

The Swiss female tourist, on a cycling trip along with her husband, was allegedly gangraped by seven to eight men at a forest area in Datia district, on the night of March 15.

The Minister said they will be taking steps to ensure such incidents do not recur.

"They had their tent in the outer area of the city but the incident should not happen, so we will think what more can be done for foreign tourists," he said.

The alleged offence took place at Jhadia village, eight kms from Datia town, at around 9 pm on March 15, when the 39-year-old woman along with her partner was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour.

The couple, who are adventure tourists, was camping at a forest area for the night while on their way back from Orchha, home to temples of Lord Ram, and were proceeding to Agra when they were attacked and looted by some persons, who took away their laptops and other valuables.

Where is the morals of the great religions in India where a woman is raped in village in Orchha, which is also called as home to temples of Lord Ram.The BJP rulers should think twice before talking to media.
what a shame on the minister to comment like this .The law states that a foreigner has to inform the local police station about their plan but what if they are raped on the way to the police station?.The statement itself is a big question for such a big country like India where thousands of Tourist come every year.

This minister better keep the police informed as to where his mother, wife, sisters and daughters movements.

That's if he has any of them....

What we believe in is Crime & Punishment. In India, the later seem to be absent. I am not saying that it does not happen in the western world. Just imagine what would have happened if it was Saudi or other Islamic countries in our very neighbourhood. Why does our politicians come out with such brilliant solution to the problems?

Our Government is failed to give protection to his own people, how it will give protection to tourists? It is a big shame for our nation. Our tourism department is failed in every filed. Only looting is going on everywhere. Before people used to loot money and assets of tourists, now they became expert in looting flesh of human being. Still our government is failed to give proper punishment for rapist severely and immediately. Keeping them in the jails for years , then they will allow them to roam freely within a year. This is our culture. The best thing is, in India all women including tourists has to keep sprays or chilly powders in their hand bags like mobile to attack these flesh eating animals or rapists. Then only these animals will learn the lesson .

Firstly, arrest Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta and store in police custody or in a jail till he apologizes for his irresponsible statement.

I hope this home minister's wife was raped then he would have realized the situation.

If our leaders are doing their duties promptly with respect to the law then there is no crime appears. They are always working on inspection, not prevention. If it happens to their wives or daughters in a foreign country then what will they say? Informing to the police means the police will act only if the person not return back, till that moment they are cool.

MINISTER IS FORTHRIGHT IN HIS STATEMENT.
TELL ME IF ANY COUPLE CHOSE TO CAMP IN GODFORSAKEN FOREST SIDES WHO CAN IMAGINE THAT THERE MAY BE A RAPE?
IT IS THE DUTY OF THE CYCLE TOURISTS FROM WEST TO KEEP THE LOCAL POLICE INFORMED SO THAT THEY WILL GET ADVICE WHERE TO CAMP AND ALSO POSSIBLY A BIT OF SECURITY.
HEADSTRONG GORAS WILL SOMETIME FACE ROUGH WEATHERS AND THIS IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE.

If tourists have to inform Police stations about their movements, our police will have only this job to do.
And tourists will have to take further 3-4 days extra tourist days to visit police stations.
Do Indians inform police stations when they tour outside India.
Is this minister born in China.
    This minister is really illiterate.

What chance any female rape victim has when you a home minister like this one.Sorry forgot it happened in India not in Bharath. Basic human rights allow anyone to travel anywhere they wish without fear. Having said that in India human rights are only for politicians and their families and rich people.

Minister should be made panel member for new Anti-Rape legislation.Disgusting to note that how he is defending his govt's innocence!!!Now Foreigners think twice before descending to India.

India rank fourth place as rapist nation in the world.Atrocities against Women are increasing day by day as we are mourning demise of Delhi rape and murder victim NIRBHAYA. Politicians need to take this issue seriously and giving such irresponsible statements just exposes person's/politicians capital.
