Bangalore, Mar 18: KDA chairman Mukhyamantri Chnadru said “if the centre fails to safeguard the interest of the regional languages, we will strongly protest against the attitude of the Union government and the UPSC across the country.

In a letter to Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Priesons V Narayanaswamy, the KDA chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said the people of the State would vehemently oppose and protest against the Congress-led UPA regime for failing to safeguard the interests of the regional languages.

''We will not tolerate and take the bias of the Centre and UPSC against the regional languages and their preference for English over the regional languages,” the BJP leader said.

UPSC’s emphasis on English should not affect prospects of candidates from small towns and rural areas.

The UPSC had proposed that the English language paper of 100 marks in the civil services main examination would be added to a candidate’s overall score.

Earlier, the candidates had to pass the English test but the marks were not added to the final tally.

“This will show that the UPSC is encouraging only English educated officers to rule the country and denying justice to the regional language candidates to study IAS, IPS, IFS etc,” Mukhyamantri Chandru said.

The Centre had already suspended the notification issued by UPSC.

UPSC should allow all the graduates, who can opt for literature as optional in the main examination.

English language marks should not be included for the ranking it should be consider for eligibility only, Mukhyamantri Chandru said.
