Anti-rape bill introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 19 (IANS): The anti-rape bill was Tuesday introduced in the Lok Sabha by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

The government, bowing to political pressure, retained the age of consent for sex at 18 years in the bill, which was approved by the cabinet Monday.

The cabinet meeting was held Monday evening following an all-party meeting in the morning, when the bill was discussed.

The government had earlier decided to lower the age of consent to 16 under the proposed Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013, following inter-ministerial consultations.
