Qatif (KSA), Mar 19: In a bizarre incident, Mohammed Siraj, aged 26, a Mangalorean, was brutally murdered at Qatif, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday March 16. Though he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead in the hospital.

The body was taken to Dammam Central Hospital after completion of the 'mahajar' of the death spot (Qarar-al-Taqsheer) by the Qatif region police and was kept in the Hospital mortuary, pending execution of all necessary formalities. It is said that the accused, who is a Saudi hailing from the same region, voluntarily surrendered himself to the police.

Mohammed Siraj hails from a poor family at Kuppepadavu (Acharijora) in Mangalore taluk of Dakshina Kannada. He was working as a house driver for his Saudi sponsor in Qatif.

The motive behind the murder is still unclear. However, according to some sources, it is learnt that after finishing his duty at night, Siraj was walking through a farm house (Mazrah) on the outskirts of the town, which is a mile away from his room, when the accused is said to have taken his personal gun and instantaneously shot at his head, killing him on the spot. After gunning down Siraj, the accused surrendered himself in the police station.

Unlike the procedures in some countries, confession to the commission of any crime made before the police is admissible in the Court of Law in the Kingdom as per the Saudi Criminal Procedure Code based on the Shariah Rule. If the guilt is proved beyond reasonable doubt in the Shariah Court, then the accused will be convicted and sentenced to death with the final approval from the Court of Cassation (Final Court of Appeal) unless pardoned by the close relatives of the victim.

It has been informed to Daijiworld that the deceased has been in the Kingdom for the past six months, working as a house driver. He was among the five children of Mohammed and Zubaida from Kuppepadavu. The deceased was the youngest son. He is survived by his wife, two minor sons, parents, three sisters and a brother.

The mortal remains have been kept in the morgue of the central hospital in Dammam awaiting further formalities and procedures. It will take a few days for the hospital to hand over the body to the relatives in anticipation of paperworks from the different departments in the region. His sponsor, who was said to be away from the Kingdom, returned immediately upon receiving news of the death.

The members of IFF Dammam-Khobar units and others are actively involved in getting the process of the formalities and other works done in this regard.

    Dear Freind
Please don't spread false allegations. Who said Qatif is a dangerous place for sunnis. Do you know 99.99% expats from all over country's citizens working in Qatif are Sunnis? they are safe for the years and years? I myself hailed from Qatif for decade. I havn't had problem. Yes, there was some tense atmosphere last year due to Bahrain uprising which linked here. You can't pick the isolated cases and highlight to the world. Comparing what is happening in India and other world? you need any explanation in details.? BTW I have noticed you been always anti Saudi in your past days too. I still remember !!. Grow up friend.

My sincere condolences and prayers to the bereaved family. Let the almighty give enough strength to the family to come over the grief. Request Indian Govt to put enough pressure to the Saudi Govt thru Indian Embessy to get the blood money and reasonable amount of compensation to support the bereaved family. My heart goes out for the two little kids who lost their father, they might not have seen him properly also.

Indian Embassy will not do anything other than the formalities. They may act only when there is pressure from either the Ministers of External Affairs or Overseas Indians Affairs or atleast one of the MPs. Similar cases in the past have been closed due to absence of evidence, witnesses or merely due to inaction by our own authorities. If the Saudi national is a man of influence, he will get away easily by simply making some false allegation against the victim or he will be acquitted by declaring mentally unstable by the medical authorities.

Snatch all property of the accused if he is a Saudi national and give to the family of deceased because this poor person may be taken a loan to get visa and ticket. Very short period within 6 month his all desires went to water. My humbly request to the Saudi Government to give compensation to the deceased so that his poor family can live by "Roti Kapda aur Makan" and the school fee to his children. Also ALLAH give the power of tolerance to the deceased family and rest the soul in peace.

    Mr. Justin Lobo,

I dispute your observation on killing innocents in Saudi. N one is attacked unless there is a valid reason. Although I agree with your points to a certain extend that mobiles and vallets/ladies bags are snatched by unemployed youths. But I disagree innocents are shot down and killed in Saudi. My friend, don't give ears to rumours. I too live in Eastern Province and am well connected with media house.

    @Aaadil Khan, Kasaragod/Saudi Arabia,
You haven't see anybody was killed except an insane or fool?

People were raped, killed and the bodies threw in the desert.

One Indian was stabbed and killed two years back. He ran for life and fell near to Nesto Super Market Dammam. Daily Indians are robbed. Laptops and cash robbed at the knife and gun point, on the streets Ladies bags are snatched away, Hard to talk in Mobile phones on the street side.
Qatif is a dangerous place for sunnis.
    Shias are plenty in number.
It is hard for an expatriate to travel from dammam to qatif or from qatif to dammam to come with valuables.
Police keep blind eye towards Indians suppose complained.

Having living in Saudi Arabia for long, I haven't heard of any one is killed or shot unless the accused is insane and total mad.

If the shooter not pysicho and a normal human, then I think there should be some real reason behind the crime. It is too premature to speculate the motive behind the cruelsome act.

I pity the family and may almighty God give them strength to withhold the loss of their family member.

do you believe killing some one will solve all the problems or disputes? it doesn't bro! As you said, the man might not have been innocent, but killing him so brutally? no, there could have been a better approach. More over, i know how indians or Asians are treated there back in Saudi!
