Kundapur, Mar 21: On the night of Wednesday March 20, accidental fire that got ignited in a jewellery shop located near the old bus stand here inflicted heavy loss on the owner. The loss would have been much greater, had the fire been started late in the night.

Short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.

The owner of ‘Gurukripa Jewellery Shop’ had downed the shutters of his shop and gone home at around 7.30 pm. At about 7.45 pm, some locals saw smoke billowing out of the shop’s roof, and passed on information to the owner.

The owner immediately rushed back and opened the doors of his shop. The people extended help in extinguishing fire by pouring water on it. The fire brigade personnel also arrived on the spot and doused the fire.

Furniture items in the shop, an electronic weighing machine used for weighing gold and ornaments, and some gold ornaments, were burnt down. The loss suffered in this incident is estimated at two lac rupees.
