Mangalore, Mar 21: Rohini K, district information officer will be inaugurating Namma Angadi, a three-day exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts, handloom and eco- friendly products of the rural artisans that will be held at St Aloysius College Auditorium on Thursday March 22 at 10 am.

Padmanabha Gowda, assistant conservator forests, Mangalore sub-division will be the guest of honour.

“We at Namma Angadi believe that the rural market must be strengthened and expanded. The people of urban areas are forgetting the rural and the folk culture. By organizing such exhibitions, we are only helping the larger cause of promoting rural artisans and their arts and crafts. Our objective is to bring into lime light those products that will soon be forgotten in the cities.  We aim to revive artisans who lived in anonymity but have sustained to India’s rich time-honoured art,” said Nishanth Kaverappa, volunteer, Namma Angadi.

Namma angadi will be held from March 22 to 24 at St Aloysius Auditorium, Mangalore and from March 25 to 27 at Mahila Kendra, Surathkal. The exhibition at Surathkal will be inaugurated by Revathi Putran, Corporator (Ward 1), Mangalore City Corporation. The exhibition has cotton Kurtas for men and women and also children, shirts, Kalamkari dress materials, artistic sarees, Lavancha products, terracotta products, traditional utensils and home accessories, traditional footwear, ethnic jewellery, pure wild honey,  organic food products, Kokum, Shikakai, aloevera soaps ,wooden furniture , rare paintings, stationery for display. The event will have the participation of artisans who will present a live demonstration of terracotta sculpting.

Through the exhibition, Namma Angadi is seeking to provide a wide range of eco friendly and products from cottage industry. Namma Bhoomi, the NGO provides alternate employment to the farmers who solely depend on agriculture. This is a platform to revive and preserve the rich tradition and culture of Indian heritage.
