Terror suspect planning Delhi strike quizzed


New Delhi, Mar 22 (IANS): A suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, planning a strike in Delhi, has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, Delhi Police said Friday.

"The suspected terrorist has been identified as Liyakat Shah, 47, a resident of Kashmir's Sopore. As per initial information, Shah came from Pakistan via Kathmandu and he was arrested from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh two days ago," said a senior police official.

During interrogation, Shah confessed that two to three of his associates carried out a recce in Delhi. They were also planning a bomb blast.

Going by the confession statement, police were able to recover an AK-47 assault rifle, hand grenades, 60 rounds of ammunition, and some maps of the Jama Masjid area in Delhi.
