180 students graduate from Dubai varsity

Dubai, April 14 (IANS/WAM): The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has conferred degrees to 178 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The 23rd graduation ceremony of the university was attended by UAE Minister of Education Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami, Gerard Seeber, Australian consul general and senior trade commissioner, Joe Chicharo, deputy vice chancellor (international) of the University of Wollongong Australia.

The students included 54 undergraduates and 124 postgraduates from over 30 countries.

University president Trevor Spedding said this year they will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the UOWD's establishment in the UAE.

"We have come a long way since 1993, when the University of Wollongong in Australia took the pioneering step to establish an overseas campus in a faraway desert city," he said.
