Tunnel accident: Shocking public apathy as man cries for help

Jaipur, Apr 15 (PTI): In a shocking case of public apathy, a man clutching on to his son lay on the road crying for help inside a tunnel next to the bodies of his wife and infant daughter with nobody stopping by for around 40 minutes after a speeding truck hit his motorcycle.

The 26-year-old woman and the eight-month-old infant who were run over by the truck died in the first accident inside the newly opened Ghat Ki Guni tunnel here yesterday while the man and his son escaped with minor injuries.

Police said the injured husband kept crying for help for around 40 minutes but the motorists ignored their cries and every vehicle passed by without stopping delaying prompt medical treatment.

The accident victims were attended to only when a staffer of a toll booth noticed the crying husband and his son inside the tunnel on a CCTV monitor.

You are right in pointing out the SC Order.
That is an order which will be applied - like in this case, if i had volunteered to help those afflicted, I would be taken to task, made to wait in the Police station and then Jailed\hammered etc. etc. until my relatives go upto SC and get the order to hand it over to the Police station where I am in. By the time, beccause of my helping nature, I'll be half dead and a lakh or two poorer and may lose my job for not attending the office.
Would you then, stop your vehicle and go to help those met with accident and be good samaritan?
Please try your hand once then you will find out how ruthless (whoever ) they are.

First of all the traffic police is to be blamed for allowing two wheeler inside the tunnel meant only for four wheeler.the supreme court has already passed a decree saying if anyone helped such victims of road traffic accidents will not be subjected to any questions or harrasment by the police or courts.and any private hospital nearest to the place can also treat and accomodate the patient without the fear of a medico-legal case. inspite of all this still people are unwilling to help one of their own is shocking and alarming in the booming INDIA.this shows how self centered and unconcerned we have become.complete apathy towards another soul....shame on all of us.

No point in talking about it, everyone knows why no one was helping them.

HOPE WE WILL HAVE SOME SENSIBLE AND EDUCATED LEADERS IN THE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS. Leader who can talk for us in the sessions and see that we get we deserve.
PROVIDED THEY KNOW WHAT WE DESERVE. 'THEY' only know what they deserve.
IT IS FUNNY "WHO 'THEY' ARE"????

    Why go to Jaipur-Rajasthan ?
In our own district last week in Perne-Uppinangady due to HPCL Gas tanker burst when some people got severely burnt and were crying for help, some by-standers were busy recording the victims's agony in their mobile Phone videos. Those burnt people subsequently died for not getting even water to drink from onlookers.
We only boast of our glorious tradition quoting stories from our Puranas, but in real life no one follows the moral in those puranas. We are only good at preaching others, and also wasting money on costly Poojas.

Had this happened to an Indian citizen in a foreign country, then comments from the readers would have condemned the incidence, conspiracy theories giving it a communal twist would have flooded your web page. But now I hear a deafening silence.
