BJP leaders booked for obstructing cops in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, April 16 (IANS): Police have registered a case against BJP legislature party leader Jayanarayan Mishra and his supporters for preventing police from performing duty during a religious procession in Odisha two days ago, an official said Tuesday.

Mishra and his supporters had also abused a senior policeman during the Hanuman Jayanti procession at the district headquarters town of Sambalpur Sunday, Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Deo told IANS.

According to him, Mishra and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters were allegedly attempting to push a procession near the place of worship of Muslim community in the town, about 320 km from here despite objectiona from the local administration.

When some policemen deployed at the site did not allow the procession, Mishra and his supporters allegedly misbehaved with them, he said.

The police registered a case against Mishra, three senior local BJP leaders and over a dozen of his supporters on the basis of a complaint lodged Monday by a senior police officer, he said.

They have been booked with the crimes of unlawful assembly, obstructing government officials from discharging of duties, he pointed out.
