Udupi: Women thieves strike poll candidate's jewellery store

Udupi, Apr 16: Women thieves struck a jewellery store here on Tuesday April 16 and made away with gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lac.

Incidentally, the store, New Mangala Jewellers belongs to Independent candidate Alevoor Yogesh Acharya who filed his nomination for the upcoming Assembly elections on Monday April 15.

It is said that four women came to the store in the morning and asked the saleperson to show them some jewellery.

One of the women diverted the salesperson's attention while the others stealthily slipped the items on the tray into their bags, it is said.

The theft was discovered only after the women left the store.

Police personnel including inspector Maruthi Nayak and others arrived at the spot and conducted investigations.

Though the incident was recorded by the CCTV, the equipment is said to be old and the images captured were not clear, sources said.

Udupi town police have registered a case.
