Congress failed to provide security to Mamata: BJP

Kolkata, April 16 (IANS): The BJP Tuesday said that the Congress-led UPA government failed to provide security to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her official Delhi visit and this exposed her to heckling by Left student activists.

"The UPA government failed to provide security to Mamata Banerjee and West Bengal finance minister at Planning Commission when they were on an official visit in Delhi," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said here.

Banerjee and her colleague Amit Mitra were heckled by activists of the Students Federation of India, affiliated to the CPI-M, in Delhi April 9.

"The Congress intimidates its allies with the help of the Central Bureau of Investigation. And for those who are not its allies, the Congress creates such conditions so that they join it," he added.

Shahnawaz Hussain said that the CBI had become a machinery to save the government.

"The allies of the NDA must focus on opposing the policies of the Congress and the UPA government. There is a need for a movement against inflation and corruption," he said.
